About

Having loved animals all my life and having the good fortune to be surrounded by them, horses, pigs, chickens, ducks and my beautiful dogs Boris (border terrier) and Ned (Kerry blue terrier) I'm amazed that it's taken me so long to realise that dog grooming would be the perfect career choice for me.

So back to school I went and under the watchful eye of the renowned groomer Laura Campanella I gained my City & Guilds qualifications.

I have now had my garage converted into a light and airy space so that I can make grooming a safe, happy, relaxed and a stress free experience for all the dogs that come to be groomed.

Being passionate about my own dogs (My fur babies) I understand the importance of making them feel relaxed and secure and can ensure that all dogs will be treated with only patience and kindness during their time here. We have created small comfortable open topped pens so that the dogs feel as much at home as possible.

In the very near future we plan to install a small number of 'home from home' style kennels directly adjacent to the grooming parlour and will advise of the progress as we proceed with them. We are situated at the very end of an unmade road, with no direct neighbours and have approximately 8 acres of land with direct access to miles of fabulous country walks.

There are many benefits to visiting a professional groomer. A professional clip will enhance a dog’s coat. A professional groomer will have knowledge of a breed and the skill to trim a dog to make it look balanced. A professional groomer will be able to enhance the coat for a specific dog so that it can look it's best. They will use the best shampoos and conditioners and can identify which shampoo would be best to enhance a coat type. An experienced groomer may spot something the owner may not have seen. This could be something as minor as fleas or a lump that’s hard to spot. Going to a groomer also provides the opportunity for social interaction with other dogs which can be a good experience for them. Grooming isn’t just for a beautiful dog (though this is obviously one noticeable effect), it’s also crucial for a dog’s good health.

The UK pet grooming industry is currently unregulated; anyone, regardless of experience, training, or qualifications, can set themselves up as a groomer. The Pet Industry Federation (PIF) have decided to change this and 2017 sees The Quality Assurance Standard for Groomers being introduced in a bid to help owners choose a suitably qualified dog groomer.

The aim of the scheme is to ensure groomers and staff are trained and competent and that they adhere to current legislation. The standard consists of an independent audit of a grooming business, covering areas such as animal welfare, staff training, equipment, and health and safety.
I decided to obtain the correct training and qualifications because I feel its important to promote and maintain the health and wellbeing of the dogs and to be able to advise owners where necessary and to be as knowlegable as possible.
